Last weekend, all of ACES was going for a nice evening walk around the neighborhood, when a car pulled up alongside us. I was convinced that we were going to a) be asked for directions, or b) accused of not picking up dog poop. But I was wrong – the couple in the car was simply offering to give us a Little Tykes set that their grandkids had outgrown. I offered the man money, but he refused; he was just glad to not be throwing it away. They had to run out before we could get the thing, but he graciously said I was welcome to let myself into his backyard and take it while he was gone. (Which was probably for the best, as I was happy NOT to have an audience while I struggled to take the thing apart and load it on top of the car.)
There’s not really any particular moral or point to this story, other than I love having nice neighbors around. By and large, pretty much everyone we’ve met by us has been kind and friendly, and it definitely makes our little summer sojourns down the local blocks a lot more enjoyable. Particularly when we get free stuff!
