There is no denying it – Cornell is officially a bracket buster in the NCAA tournament!  First, on Friday, they beat Temple in a great upset.  Then, yesterday, they beat the fourth-seeded Wisconsin to advance to the Sweet Sixteen!  They are the first Ivy League school to make it this far in the Tourney since 1979, when Penn reached the Final Four.  (If you need a reminder about what makes an Ivy League school, please click here for a refresher.)

Of course I am always chock full of pride about my alma mater, but this news seems especially exciting.  The Men’s Basketball team’s victories also coincide with Cornell beating Union for the ECAC hockey championship (Sorry, Justin), as well as the Women’s hockey team fighting one hell of a fight for their own championship, eventually losing in triple overtime (triple!) to Minnesota-Duluth.

And yeah, it’s also now now for Cornell to actually be getting some good press, in the wake of all the negative attention it has received recently.  I sure hope these big wins have cheered up the mood on campus.

Good luck on Thursday against Kentucky, Cornellians!  The odds are certainly stacked against you guys (Kentucky is favored to win the whole tournament, while Cornell is at 60-1 odds), but hey, isn’t that what you need in a great Cinderella story?

GO BIG RED!
