The missus and I caught the semi-new flick I Love You, Man, and even though Wifey wasn’t totally convinced that she’d like it, we both ended up really enjoying it. Now, I love Paul Rudd – from Wet Hot American Summer to his small roles in the Apatow movies to his great take in the little seen Ten, the man is just plain funny. And I thought Jason Segel was hysterical in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. (And yes, I know I have to watch How I Met Your Mother – someone lend me the DVDs when this TV season is over. Hint, hint…)
Aside form the acting, it was just a great concept for amovie – showing the beauty of a new bromance. Anyone who’s ever been on a few man-dates (there’s no shame in it) will definitely appreciate all of the awkwardness of a new relat-man-ship. And it’s a totally different thing than the tried and true “cop partners who end up being buddies” genre – that’s something else entirely. J.D. and Turk have done a great job of showing hetero man love on Scrubs, but it was nice to see the subject finally given a chance on the big screen.
Anyway, I’d recommend the movie – it has all the great awkwardness of an Apatow comedy – even though Judd had nothing to do with it, plenty of funny bits for your lady friend, and a true appreciation for the genius of Rush.
