The most famous number in the world, 867-5309, is for sale on eBay.. And the bidding is currently over $400,000.

Now, I’m a big supporter of 80’s nostalgia and classic 80’s tunes, but who the hell has that kind of scratch to spend on a phone number? Sure the guy is throwing in his DJ business, but do DJ’s really take in enough dough where an initial layout of $400k can be easily made up for in a few weeks of DJ’ing? And most importantly, will this guy or gal EVER play a gig without Tommy Tutone’s biggest (OK fine, only) hit?

Sure the number will get a lot of calls, but will they be from serious wedding/event/Bar Mitzvah planners looking for a local DJ to spin some tracks, or will the bulk of them be from drunken kids pranking you at 3am? My guess is the latter.

And even if it does seem like a good idea for an investment, keep in mind: the number has a New Jersey area code. Shudder.
